ROOTS & ROUTES goes Bergisch Gladbach 2020

19th - 24th October 2020

The annual autumn break workshop week “ROOTS & ROUTES goes Bergisch Gladbach” took place in 2020 linked with the project “iJuLa – intersectional youth labs in the Veedel”. Along the theme “Hip-Hop for Democracy” 29 young people artistically dealt with the topic of “fear”.

For the first time, a ROOTS & ROUTES autumn break workshop week in Bergisch Gladbach did not end with a public performance, but with a joint film production: due to the pandemic, this was the safer option.

29 young people from Bergisch Gladbach and Cologne spent 5 days intensely working on the topic of “fear” – and with how dangerous deliberately fuelled fears can be for a democracy. In urban dance, breakdance, music, graffiti and video workshops, elements were created that were then combined into a joint film production.
