It’s been 20 years since Rotterdam was European Capital of Culture in 2001 – and a small local project was born: ROOTS & ROUTES!
In 2006, 15 years ago, the first international ROOTS & ROUTES project in Cologne immediately rocked the main stage of the Summerjam festival.
In fall 2014, 7 years ago, the first two projects of the newly founded ROOTS & ROUTES Cologne (RRCGN) association started.
Time for a look back, a look forward and a change of scenery!

On October 1st we want to celebrate with you 20 years of ROOTS & ROUTES and 7 years of RRCGN projects. And take the opportunity to relaunch our website and public relations: The new logo shows three stylized knobs, more and more turned up – we support young artists* to be heard and turn up the volume! The new claim “createxchange” focuses on the core of RRCGN’s work: creating spaces for creative exchange – whether at international youth encounters, or most recently at our intersectional youth creative lab (iJuLa) in Zollstock. What remains is the association name, the red hue that ROOTS & ROUTES has had in its logo for 20 years – and of course our international network!

This includes Cologne’s twin cities like Lille: that’s where Freddy Chattuais comes from, who participated in various ROOTS & ROUTES projects from 2013 to ’15. With his band “The Dead Cats” he will enrich the evening with live music – joined on piano: Maximien Aldebert (now Florence), music coach in some RRCGN projects.

Other musical contributions will come from the fantastic newcomer band “Die Horsecocks,” whose members are active on the iJuLa Youth Board of Trustees, and from RRCGN team member Mehregan Behrouz, who participated as a vocalist in the first-ever “The ROOTS & ROUTES Experience” project in 2008.

We look forward to a great afternoon and evening with you!

Kind regards

Janna, Mehregan, Tim, Yves & Sascha
