Rollen Gestalten

01. October 2025 - 29. February 2026

What does it mean to be young today—under the gaze, judgment, and expectations of society? How do ideals of beauty, role models, and digital spaces shape our self-image? The Rollen Gestalten project invites young people from Cologne-Meschenich to make their perspectives visible—creatively, critically, and on equal terms.

Creating with roles ROOTS & ROUTES Cologne e. V., the Meschenich Children’s and Youth Center, and Junge Stadt Köln are creating a safe, artistic space for children, teenagers, and young adults. In eight participatory workshops between November 2025 and February 2026, participants will explore gender roles and diversity issues based on their own life experiences.

Together, they create audiovisual, interactive, and text-based media content on topics such as beauty ideals, critical masculinity, and loneliness after the pandemic. The resulting works are then presented on a website and made publicly available.

The workshops use a variety of media forms: drawing, photography, video, 360° technology, and virtual reality.

The project responds to current challenges in the lives of young people and strengthens gender-sensitive media education in the Meschenich social space. The results will be incorporated into an exhibition by Junge Stadt Köln and are intended to provide professionals with new ideas for their educational work.
