The ROOTS & ROUTES Experience 2026

20th July – 06. August 2026

The ROOTS & ROUTES Experience 2026 will once again bring together young artists from several European countries. During a two-week intensive working phase at the Landesmusikakademie NRW, a joint interdisciplinary stage play will be created – developed from the perspectives of all participants. This will be followed by the premiere in Cologne.

To participate in The ROOTS & ROUTES Experience 2026 project, people residing in Germany must register for the “RRCGN Match Days 2026.” All interested parties are invited to register for the Match Days on the project page.

The RRCGN Match Days 2026 are your gateway to all international ROOTS & ROUTES projects: During two free workshop days, you will get to know the team, receive feedback on your artistic skills, and find out which project suits you best. Participation in a Match Day is a prerequisite for taking part in this international exchange project.

Each experience has its own character: shaped by the people who come together and by working together across borders, languages, and art forms.

Since 2008, the ROOTS & ROUTES Experience has been inviting young artists to develop new forms of expression together. Participants from 6 to 10 countries contribute their individual backgrounds and artistic languages – from dance and music to theater and media art to transdisciplinary experiments.

RRXP takes place in three steps:

  1. Preparatory meeting: The group jointly decides on a theme for the production.
  2. Working phase in Heek: Over two weeks, a full-length stage play is created, accompanied by artistic direction and professional coaches.
  3. Premiere in Cologne: The finished production is presented – usually twice – in the hall of the Alte Feuerwache Cologne.

RRXP26 continues this tradition – the theme is developed by the group during the preparation phase.
