The R&R Peer Coach Academy

Peer-Coach-Trainings since 2008

Since 2008, partner organizations in the international ROOTS & ROUTES network have jointly developed a concept and curriculum for a cultural peer coach training; for young artists from performing arts and media who would like to pass on their competencies to peers and younger people as peer coaches.

You are 16 to 27 years old? Making music, dancing, making movies or graffiti is your thing? You enjoy passing on your skills to others? For example in workshops in youth centers or at schools? Then the ROOTS & ROUTES Peer Coach Academy is the right place for you!

The ROOTS & ROUTES Peer Coach Training consists of three parts:

1. A 10 to 12-day block phase, usually with an overnight stay;

2. a supervised practice phase with at least 60 self-directed hours;

3. a final reflection weekend.

Those who successfully complete these three parts receive the ROOTS & ROUTES Peer Coach Certificate, which is recognized by all members of the international ROOTS & ROUTES network. Since 2021, there is also the possibility to additionally acquire the juleica (youth leader card recognized throughout Germany) – for this, an external first aid course must be attended in addition.

The ROOTS & ROUTES Peer Coach Academy has three major topics:

  •     Leading Groups / Pedagogy and Communication / Diversity and Inclusivity in Groups.
  •     Teaching artistic skills and own artistic development.
  •     Framework and self-management: I as a self-employed person, finances and laws, basics of youth work.

In addition to the peer coach academies, there are occasional peer coach trainings under the title “LevelUp!”.

RRCGN always offers ROOTS & ROUTES peer coach trainings, but not every year (for example, there were none in 2018 and 2019). Peer Coach Academies will be held in 2021, 2022, and 2024 as part of the iJuLa project. Further down on this page – under News, Dates and Other Projects – you will find info as soon as the date of the next peer coach training round is known.
