Baltrum 2026

15th November – 01st December 2026

The two-week residency on Baltrum will once again bring together young artists from different countries in 2026. Between sandy beaches, autumn weather, and the Wadden Sea, small groups will create artistic works that will subsequently be exhibited in Cologne. As every year, the project theme will be developed jointly by the group.

To participate in the Baltrum 2026 project, people residing in Germany must register for the “RRCGN Match Days 2026.” All interested parties are invited to register for the Match Days on the project website.

The RRCGN Match Days 2026 are your gateway to all international ROOTS & ROUTES projects: During two free workshop days, you will get to know the team, receive feedback on your artistic skills, and find out which project suits you best. Participation in a Match Day is a prerequisite for taking part in this international exchange project.

Since 2014, Baltrum has been a special place for international artistic collaboration. The car-free island with its long beaches, late autumn storms, and proximity to the Wadden Sea shapes the artistic processes anew each year.

During the two-week residency, around 40 young artists from several countries work in small transnational groups. The works are created at the intersection of performance, text, music, film, installation, and experimental forms—accompanied by professional coaches and the RRCGN team.

The self-catering house on the edge of the nature reserve offers everything the group needs: shared workspaces, proximity to nature, and plenty of peace and quiet. As is traditional, the theme for Baltrum 2026 will be developed jointly on site.
After two weeks on the island, the resulting works will be brought to Cologne and presented to the public there.
